They have fern coils on their heads

The koru (Māori for "loop") is a spiral shape based on the shape of a new unfurling silver fern frond and symbolizing new life, growth, strength and peace

New Zealand Flax flowers

I have lots of New Zealand, flax's in my garden, the native Tui bird is a fan of taking the nectar from the flowering flax plant.
They are a joy to watch...

I bought these dyed flax flowers at a market, and thought they would make a lovely wreath

I must have a go at making some flax flowers...

Cheers Marie.

Forest Gone

Not far from my home is a pine forest..
For the last 20 years we have been walking in it, collecting pine-cones for our wood fires and enjoying the bird song.
Well yesterday they started to fell it for lumber
We will sure miss walking there,
It was a 5 minute walk from my home.

Totara... Native New Zealand Batten

A sweet little owl
Sitting on a New Zealand native wood Totara fence batten
That was milled locally in the 1890's
So the owl is sitting on wood that is over 100 years old...
Available here in my shop

I heard a whisper

I heard a tiny whisper in the forest
I turned and spotted this wee fellow
He said he was very happy with me
For providing all that was needed
Loving care so trees could grow
To shelter the birds
He said he often looked skyward
And was amazed at the amount
Of birds that visited my home
He told them to tell others to come

Getting ready for Winter

Twenty five years ago we planted about 60 trees on a small woodlot
These were a mixture of Acacia, Red woods, Douglas Fir,  Red river gum, Eucalyptus etc
These we have coppiced over the years to provide firewood for our small home
I took this photo yesterday, and it shows the wood my husband has cut and stacked ready for the Winter
He is an orderly man ,hence the nice stacking ha, ha,

How green is my world

Deep in the New Zealand bush, a little koru forest princess dwells.
With her beautiful unfurling fern frond she swayed in the gentle breeze and smiled.
When the trampers walked by, they could not detect her, thou they commented on the beautiful ferns laid out on the forest floor.

KORU - The Koru is the Maori name given to the new unfolding fern frond and symbolizes new life, growth, strength and peace.
