Giveaway winner and Bread making

One of our many wood piles

Congratulations to Cassie who won the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs picture.

I have stopped buying bread and make my own
I sometimes make wholemeal, sometimes plain.
Cooking on a wood fire has a rhythm to it
One needs to collect fallen pine cones ( great fire starters)
Cut kindling and chop wood
Luckily my husband loves the rhythm of wood chopping
I light my wood fire everyday, Winter and Summer
It is connected to the hot water element, so no mains are needed

This is my bread recipe
Stir 2tspns dry yeast in 2 cups of water
Stand for 15 minutes
In a bowl add 3 cups of flour
Add a pinch of salt
Add yeast
Knead together
Let stand for 2 hours in warm place
Punch down, knead again
Let stand for 1 hour
Place in greased tin and cook at 180 C for 45 minutes.

I am always thankful for all your kind comments... love and light Marie

  8. Hello Marie- I've been away to long. I hope you are staying toasty warm. Your twin girls custom piece is adorable and I can't wait to try your bread recipe (using gluten free flour). Bear and I love trying new bread recipes. It's more fun and cheaper than buying it at the store. Take care.

  9. I love your wood pile... when we were younger my mum used to make what she called a 'bug' bread and she'd share it with the neighbourhood mum's if their bug died. Sounds weird but it was yummy to eat. Your loaf looks very yummy too.

  14. Marie,

I'm not sure why this popped in my head today, probably because I tend to freak out when entrusting things to the postal service. I usually check up with people to see if they got things. I'm just trying to make sure that the knitted treasures we traded for way back when arrived.

    Thanks,
    Cadi

  18. I love breadmaking in the cold months! If you dice up some garlic and toss it in the dough, it makes the whole house smell sweet and garlicky- if you like garlic of course.
I sent your package last week, I hope you like it! Let me know when it arrives.

  20. Sometimes I forget that the bread my husband makes every day is so unusual. At the store the other day, I suddenly realized that I never buy bread - and thought about doing just that, and the kind of bread I'd end up having to eat, and immediately sat down and started counting blessings.
